We carried out tests on the growth substrate developed and manufactured by Novigo OÜ at our greenhouses at Laagri (see photo). We received ca 800 L of granules and substrate from Novigo OÜ. To test the granules/material we planted 100 pre-grown cucumber plants into the Novigo substrate. The irrigation mode met the conditions we use to provide nutrient solutions for plants growing in peat.

Conclusions

• Plant root and stem diseases appear later (ca 1 month) and on a smaller scale
• Plant collums stay dry
• Growth period ca 1 week longer
• 17% larger yield
• Large scale application of the granules requires irrigation system adjustment
• The preparation and consequent cleanup of the plant growth substrate with the granules is easier and quicker compared to peat (no “mud”)
